A high alpine pass through the Southern Alps, with cheeky keas, beech forest and big peaks.
Arthur's Pass is the highest of the routes across the Southern Alps, a village surrounded by beech forest, waterfalls and alpine peaks. Day walks like the Devils Punchbowl and Avalanche Peak leave from the road, and the cheeky kea (alpine parrot) is never far away.
DOC campsites here put you in the heart of the mountains. Weather changes fast and roads can close in winter, so check conditions before you head over.
