Terms & Conditions

1. Definitions
In these terms: Operator means JustGoodCampers Ltd, Auckland, New Zealand. Hirer means the person named on the rental agreement and all authorised drivers. Vehicle means the campervan hired under this agreement. Bond means the security deposit held at pickup. Excess means the maximum amount the Hirer is liable for in the event of a claim. Term of Hire means the period from pickup to return.
2. Booking & Payment
A non-refundable 20% deposit is required at the time of booking to secure your reservation. The remaining 80% balance is due 30 days before your pickup date. If you book less than 30 days before pickup, the full amount is due immediately.
We accept Visa and Mastercard (credit and debit) for the deposit and full payment. Bank transfer is accepted for the balance only — details provided at booking. All prices are in New Zealand Dollars (NZD). There are no credit card surcharges — the price you see is the price you pay.
3. Cancellation & Changes
Cancellation by the Hirer:
- 14+ days before pickup (21+ days December–February): full deposit refund
- 7–13 days before pickup: 50% of total booking value refunded
- Less than 7 days before pickup, or no-show: no refund
Date changes: The first date change is free. Each subsequent change incurs a $25 administration fee, subject to availability.
Cancellation by the Operator: In the unlikely event we need to cancel, we'll provide a full refund. We'll do our best to find a suitable alternative.
4. Driver Requirements
All drivers must:
- Be at least 21 years of age
- Hold a full driver's licence (not learner, restricted, or provisional) held for at least 12 months
- If the licence is not in English: hold an International Driving Permit (IDP) or certified English translation (we recommend rvatranslations.co.nz)
Extra drivers are free of charge, must meet the same requirements, and must be listed on the rental agreement before driving. Unlisted drivers are not covered by insurance.
5. Insurance & Liability
Basic (Standard) cover: Included with every rental. Comprehensive vehicle insurance for collisions, theft, fire, and weather events. The Hirer is liable for the first $3,000 of any claim (the bond/excess).
Peace of Mind upgrade ($29/day): Zero bond, zero excess. All damage covered including windscreen, tyres, panel damage, and gravel road damage.
Not covered under either plan:
- Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- Breach of this agreement
- Driving on prohibited roads or tracks (see Section 7)
- Single-vehicle rollovers caused by reckless driving
- Off-road driving
- Personal belongings (we recommend separate travel insurance)
6. Security Bond
Basic cover: A $3,000 bond is pre-authorised on the Hirer's credit card at pickup. This is a pre-authorisation only — no money is charged unless damage occurs. The bond is released within 7 business days after return, subject to inspection.
Peace of Mind: No bond required.
The bond may be retained (in full or in part) for: damage to the vehicle, missing or damaged equipment, excessive cleaning ($150 fee), fuel not refilled to full, traffic infringements or fines, and toll charges incurred during the rental.
7. Vehicle Use & Restricted Roads
The vehicle may only be used on sealed New Zealand roads and well-maintained gravel roads. The following roads are strictly prohibited and will void your insurance:
- Ninety Mile Beach, Northland
- North of Colville, Coromandel Peninsula
- Skippers Road, Queenstown
- Ball Hutt Road, Mt Cook
- Ski field access roads (June–October)
- Any beach driving
Additional conditions:
- No smoking in the vehicle ($500 cleaning fee applies)
- No pets without prior written agreement ($500 fee applies)
- Vehicle must be locked when unattended
- Do not overload the vehicle beyond its rated capacity
8. Vehicle Return
The vehicle must be returned on the agreed date, time, and location in the same condition it was collected. At return:
- Fuel tank must be full (cost of refuelling plus a $30 administration fee applies if not)
- Vehicle must be reasonably clean (excessive cleaning fee: $150)
- All equipment must be returned
Late returns: A daily rate plus $50 administration fee applies for each day or part-day overdue. Please notify us as soon as possible if your return will be delayed.
Report any damage or incidents immediately — do not admit fault to any third party.
9. Breakdown & Assistance
24/7 roadside assistance is included with every rental. If you experience a breakdown or mechanical issue, contact us immediately. Do not arrange or authorise repairs without our prior consent — unauthorised repair costs will not be reimbursed.
We will cover the cost of repairs for mechanical failures not caused by the Hirer. If a breakdown results in loss of travel days, we will credit those days at the daily rate where reasonably practicable.
10. Hirer Responsibilities
The Hirer agrees to:
- Comply with all New Zealand road laws and regulations
- Check oil, water, and tyre pressure regularly (we'll show you how at pickup)
- Report any warning lights or mechanical concerns immediately
- Take responsibility for all traffic fines, parking infringements, and toll charges incurred during the rental period
- Not sublet or lend the vehicle to any person not listed on the agreement
11. Limitation of Liability
The Operator is not liable for delays or losses caused by mechanical breakdown beyond our control, loss or damage to the Hirer's personal property, consequential or indirect losses arising from the rental, or any losses arising from restricted road usage.
These terms do not affect your rights under the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act 1993.
12. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.
