About us
Hi, we're Lauran and Nikki. For years we dreamed of leaving the Netherlands behind and living closer to nature. In February 2024 we came to New Zealand in a campervan to see it for ourselves, and fell for it completely. Somewhere along the way, “one day” turned into “why not now,” so we made Aotearoa home, our son Ollie included.
JustGoodCampers is how we share the country that captured us. When you pick up your camper in Auckland or Christchurch, it's already packed and ready, with no surprise fees at pickup. We're small on purpose: message us and you're talking to us, not a call centre.
Our hosts
Not every camper you see here is ours. A few are owned and run by local hosts we've come to know and trust — people who look after their camper, and your trip, the same way we would our own.
Book one of their campers and you deal with them directly: they take the payment, hand over the keys, and are on the other end of the phone if you need them. We just make the introduction.

The process

Drop us a message or WhatsApp with your dates and how many are travelling. We'll tell you which camper makes sense and give honest advice on timing and routes.
We pack your camper with fresh bedding, cooking gear, and everything on the included list. It's ready when you arrive.
Pick up your camper and go. New Zealand is yours. We're on WhatsApp the whole time — whether it's a flat tyre or just a good camping spot recommendation.

Christchurch is the gateway to the South Island, and there's no better way to explore it than by campervan. Our campervan rental in Christchurch gives you a fully equipped, self-contained camper and the freedom to point it wherever the weather's best — the Southern Alps, the Mackenzie lakes, Kaikōura's coast, or all the way to Milford Sound.
We're a small, family-run team, and every camper comes ready to live in: bedding made up, kitchen stocked, camp chairs in the back, and an honest all-in price with no surprises at the counter. Pick up in Christchurch, drop off in Christchurch, or travel one-way to or from Auckland if that suits your route better.
Both campers hold a current NZ Certificate of Self-Containment, so you can freedom camp at designated spots across the South Island — Lake Tekapo under the dark sky, a quiet bay in the Catlins, a river flat in the high country. You're not tied to holiday parks.
Most of our guests are travelling New Zealand for the first time, and the South Island is where the postcards come from. If you're not sure whether you can fit the West Coast glaciers, Queenstown and Fiordland into your trip, just ask — we live here and we love helping people plan the drive.
Christchurch is a real pickup point, not a line on a map. The camper is driven down from Auckland for you and waiting when you land, and we collect you from Christchurch Airport at no charge — the same free transfer we run in Auckland. You do not need a taxi and you do not need to find a depot shuttle.
There is one honest condition, and it is better to read it here than to hit it at the checkout: a trip that starts or ends in Christchurch needs 21 days. Bringing a camper the length of the country is a five-day drive for us each way, so a short South Island loop does not work — an Auckland round trip starts at seven days instead.
If 21 days sounds like a lot, it is worth knowing that is roughly the trip most of our guests are doing anyway. Three weeks is about the point where the South Island stops feeling like a race.
The same all-in rate as anywhere else: bedding, the full kitchen, camp chairs, a table, the cleaning kit, the airport transfer and luggage storage are in the price. A one-way leg adds a flat NZ$400, and if we have to reposition the camper rather than start from base that adds 10% — the booking screen shows both before you pay.
Rates follow the season, so the shoulder months either side of summer are genuinely cheaper and the roads are quieter. 2-berth camper, for couples: NZ$119–389 a night · cheapest June to August. 4-berth motorhome, for families: NZ$235–595 a night · cheapest June.
North up the coast to Kaikōura for the whales, inland to Lake Tekapo and Aoraki for the dark sky, or west over Arthur's Pass to the glaciers and the rainforest. Queenstown and Fiordland are a comfortable two days away, and Milford Sound is worth the detour on a wet day when the walls run with water.
Three weeks fits the full South Island circuit without hurrying. Four weeks fits it with a fortnight in the north as well, which is where a one-way to Auckland earns its fee.
