A 20% deposit secures your booking — pay with any Visa or Mastercard. The remaining balance is due 21 days before pickup, and can also be paid by bank transfer. If you book less than 21 days out, the full amount is due at booking. No credit card surcharges, ever.

Plans change, so date changes are free whenever you need them, subject to availability. If you cancel 21 or more days before pickup, your full deposit is refunded. Less than 21 days before pickup, or a no-show, isn't refundable, as the camper was held just for you. If something unexpected comes up, get in touch — we'll always try to work with you.

For peak season (December to February) and school holidays, three to six months ahead is sensible. In the shoulder seasons, four to six weeks is usually enough. We only have two campers, so availability goes quickly — if you're set on specific dates, don't wait.

Yes. For a standard trip that picks up and drops off in Auckland, the minimum is 7 days. For any trip that starts or finishes in Christchurch — a one-way rental — the minimum is three weeks (21 days). That gives you time to enjoy the drive between the islands, and lets us reposition the camper for the next traveller.

Drivers need to be at least 21 years old and to have held a full driver's licence for at least 12 months.

Yes, and it's free. Additional drivers just need to meet the same age and licence requirements. Add them when you book, or let us know at pickup.

Most trips finish back at our Auckland base. If you'd rather end your journey in the South Island, you can drop off in Christchurch as a one-way rental — a one-way fee applies and is shown clearly before you book.

Long-haul into New Zealand is a big trip, so we usually suggest sleeping first. Spend your first night in an Auckland hotel, catch up on rest, then pick up your camper the next day feeling fresh and ready to drive. It makes those first days on the road far more enjoyable.

Yes, and it's free. If you've got extra bags or boxes you don't want to travel with, we'll store them safely at our base until you come back.

You empty grey water and the toilet cassette at a dump station — they're free and dotted all over New Zealand, and the apps show you where they are. It's quick and far less messy than it sounds. We'll show you how at pickup, and there's a short video if you'd like a refresher.

On Basic cover, yes. New Zealand recovers the cost of maintaining its roads from diesel vehicles through Road User Charges. Rather than bury it in a higher daily rate, we pass it through honestly at NZ$0.084 per kilometre, calculated from the odometer at the end of your trip. Your kilometres are always unlimited — you simply cover the actual distance you drive. If you take our Peace of Mind cover, Road User Charges are included, so there's no per-kilometre charge at all.

Yes. The Cook Strait ferry connects Wellington and Picton and takes around 3.5 hours, and both campers fit on board. Book your crossing ahead of time in summer, as sailings sell out — and let us know your plans so we can help. The crossing is an experience in itself.

A few. For safety and insurance reasons, the campers aren't permitted on Ninety Mile Beach, Skippers Canyon Road, or Ball Hut Road, and we ask you to avoid beaches and unformed roads. Everywhere else on your itinerary is fair game — if you're unsure about a particular route, just ask.

You're never on your own. Every rental includes 24/7 roadside assistance, and you can reach us directly on WhatsApp. Most things are a quick fix, and if it's something bigger, we'll sort it out with you.

The easiest option is a local SIM or eSIM — you can pick one up at the airport when you land, and coverage is good across most of the country. If you'd like reliable internet even in remote spots, ask us about adding Starlink to your trip.

The Kākāpō has both — including a heated floor and a full bathroom with a hot shower. The Tūī has an onboard toilet and everything you need for comfortable nights, but no shower or heating; it's built to stay compact and reach the places bigger campers can't.

Sometimes — it depends on the camper and the trip, so please ask us first. We consider dogs on request and will let you know what's possible.

No — both campers are strictly smoke-free, so every guest picks up a fresh, clean van.
