About us
Hi, we're Lauran and Nikki. For years we dreamed of leaving the Netherlands behind and living closer to nature. In February 2024 we came to New Zealand in a campervan to see it for ourselves, and fell for it completely. Somewhere along the way, “one day” turned into “why not now,” so we made Aotearoa home, our son Ollie included.
JustGoodCampers is how we share the country that captured us. When you pick up your camper in Auckland or Christchurch, it's already packed and ready, with no surprise fees at pickup. We're small on purpose: message us and you're talking to us, not a call centre.
Our hosts
Not every camper you see here is ours. A few are owned and run by local hosts we've come to know and trust — people who look after their camper, and your trip, the same way we would our own.
Book one of their campers and you deal with them directly: they take the payment, hand over the keys, and are on the other end of the phone if you need them. We just make the introduction.

The process

Drop us a message or WhatsApp with your dates and how many are travelling. We'll tell you which camper makes sense and give honest advice on timing and routes.
We pack your camper with fresh bedding, cooking gear, and everything on the included list. It's ready when you arrive.
Pick up your camper and go. New Zealand is yours. We're on WhatsApp the whole time — whether it's a flat tyre or just a good camping spot recommendation.

Looking for a motorhome rental in New Zealand? Our 4-berth is a European-built Laika L3019 — a proper coach-built motorhome with a full kitchen, a fixed double bed, an onboard toilet and shower, and heating, sleeping up to four. For couples, the compact 2-berth is easier still to drive. Both are fully self-contained.
We keep it simple and honest. Every motorhome comes stocked with bedding, cooking gear, camp chairs and a cleaning kit, with an airport transfer and luggage storage included — no add-on packages, no surprises at pickup. We're a small family team based in Auckland, so you always reach a real person.
Because both vehicles carry a current NZ Certificate of Self-Containment, you can freedom camp at designated spots right across the country — not just holiday parks. That's the difference a self-contained motorhome makes: you wake up beside the lake, not in a car park.
The real question is not what to call it. It is which one you can drive on a one-lane bridge without your shoulders going up, and whether the kitchen is good enough to cook in on night three. Ours are, and we will tell you honestly which of the two suits your group.
If you are booking from the States, the vehicle you want is what we call a motorhome or a campervan. It is not a Class A. Nothing that size makes sense here: New Zealand roads are narrow, often single-lane over bridges, and the good campsites are down gravel tracks. Our 4-berth is a coach-built Laika from Tuscany, roomy enough to live in for a month and still small enough to park at a trailhead.
You drive on the left. Everyone worries about it and almost nobody has trouble after the first hour, because the camper is automatic and we take you through it before you leave. A standard US licence is fine — both vehicles are under 6,000 kg, so no special endorsement, and no international permit needed for an English-language licence.
The other difference is where you can sleep. Both campers carry a current Certificate of Self-Containment, which means you can legally stay the night in designated free spots all over the country rather than paying for an RV park every night. That is the part that surprises American guests most, and it is the best thing about travelling here.
One all-in rate with the bedding, the full kitchen, camp chairs, a table, the cleaning kit, the Auckland Airport transfer and luggage storage already in it. No kitchen pack, no linen fee, no charge for a second driver.
Rates follow the New Zealand season, which is flipped from the Northern Hemisphere: our cheapest months are your summer. 4-berth Laika motorhome, sleeps four: NZ$235–595 a night · cheapest June. 2-berth camper, for couples: NZ$119–389 a night · cheapest June to August.
Pick up in Auckland and drop off in Christchurch, or the reverse, and you only drive the country once. A flat NZ$400 relocation fee applies and the booking screen shows it before you pay. For a three-week trip or longer it is usually the better call — the ferry crossing through the Marlborough Sounds is worth doing in the right direction.
