The Tūī gives you everything you actually need for a New Zealand road trip, and nothing that just takes up space. It's self-contained, well equipped, and easy to drive. Best of all, it's ready to go the moment we hand you the keys.
Being smaller means you can go further. Side roads, narrow passes, and freedom camping spots that bigger vehicles can't reach: the Tūī opens up parts of New Zealand that most visitors never see. Perfect for two people who want to move freely and sleep well, on a proper fixed bed with a real mattress, not a pile of cushions you rebuild every night.

Two people who want a bed that stays made up all trip: the Tūī. Two people on a budget who do not mind converting the bed each evening, and who would rather spend the difference on the trip: the Pīwakawaka. A family, or four adults who need one table indoors on a wet afternoon: the Kākāpō. Tell us how many of you there are and when you are coming and we will say which one we would give you.
Yes. One fixed double, 186 × 177 cm, with a mattress topper, and it stays made for the whole trip — nothing to convert in the evening and nothing to pack away in the morning. That is the main thing you are buying over the Pīwakawaka, where the bench seats become the bed.
Yes, and it is worth knowing before you book. Driving on the left in an unfamiliar vehicle is enough to think about on its own, so if you would rather not also change gear, both of our own campers are automatics — the Pīwakawaka and the Kākāpō. Plenty of guests drive the Tūī happily, just not the ones who have never driven a manual.

Their own rental agreement and terms apply, and both are linked from this page. Our own campers, the Pīwakawaka and the Kākāpō, are booked and paid with us.
Yes. It is NZ-certified self-contained, with a toilet on board and a 25-litre fresh water tank, which is what the rules actually require. That opens up the hundreds of Department of Conservation sites — often free, sometimes up to about NZ$25 a night.
A gas cooker, a sink and prep space, and a fridge with a freezer compartment. There is a solar panel on the roof, so you can park somewhere with a view rather than somewhere with a power point. Bedding, cooking gear, plates and cutlery are all in the van before you collect it.
